Dr MGR Foundation
“Life is abundant; and only when you are so full inside do you have the desire to share your overflowing internal abundance.”
My name is Dr. Manuel Gutierrez Romero and I have over 13 years of experience in Board Certified aesthetic, reconstructive and plastic surgery. Mexico is my home; I graduated from medical school in Tijuana, Mexico in 1992 and moved to Mexico City where I completed The residency of General Surgeon for three years at the La Raza Medical Center.
In 1995, I began three years of residency in plastic aesthetic and reconstructive surgery in General Hospital. As soon as I graduated, I got my board certification by the Mexican Board of Plastic Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, with which I have renewed my certification every five years.
In May 1998, I moved to my native city of Tijuana, where I began my private practice. Since then, I have had the opportunity to take care of patients from all over the world. My practice consists of 90% cosmetic surgery and 10% reconstructive surgery.
In 2002, I joined the Rotary Club in the Otay Club in Tijuana and was nominated President in 2004. One of our projects was to initiate cleft and lip palate surgery for children of families in need. Since then, my associate Dr. Alfredo Harris Dominguez (14 years of experience in plastic surgery and my best friend) and I have had the opportunity to perform over 100 surgical procedures for children with no financial means.
In my years of private practice, many patients - after learning that we perform this type of procedure - have shown interest in sponsoring children in need.
A surgery like this can be performed at a minimal cost of only $400 ($200 will go towards the expense of anesthesia and anesthesiologist, and $200 for medications, material, sutures, and disposable equipment). The rest of the staff donates their time, dedication, support and assistance to the children and their families.
My foundation was built on my desire to give back; to give thanks for the many blessings shared by me and my family by giving to those in need. I extend this opportunity to all my patients - to sponsor a surgery for a child and family in need if they choose to do so.
Currently, there is such a large demand for these types of procedures that I have decided to donate $400 from every patient having a cosmetic procedure of $5,000 or more. I believe that this will add additional value to those patients considering cosmetic surgery; not only are they able to pursue their own physical goals, they are able to help a child in need as a result.
Those who donate in this manner are also able to see firsthand how their generosity has changed a life through video and a testimonial letter done by patients who are grateful for their procedures.
I will post pictures of my patients who make a donation and next to those pictures I will also post a before and after picture/video clip of the child they helped, along with a letter of gratitude from the child and family members. In the event a child has the need for a subsequent procedure, their sponsor will have the chance to continue sponsoring procedures for the same child.
The number of procedures that will be necessary depends on the severity of the affliction and the extension of the clef and lip palate; typically most children require multiple procedures in their life: closing of the lip at 10-weeks-old, closing of the palate at 18 months, correction of scars, speech therapy procedures before they go to school at age 5 or 6 years, and a reconstructive nose operation at 15-years-old.
If you want to make a comment or participate in sponsoring any child in need, you can do so by sending us your information and a comment.
